visionzones is a relaxed dialogue session between Rizman Putra and Pat Toh about their varied yet resonant artistic practices involving embodied performance under and beyond the banner of “theatre”.

Their interdisciplinary practices not only combine but also trans/mutate between disciplines and forms, such that their work often sits uneasily within the usual categories of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, literary arts. However, the ambiguity of where they belong creates opportunities to traverse rooms, platforms, and communities, offering a mobility that shapes their practice in return.

Anchored by the specificity of Rizman's and Pat's practices, we consider interdisciplinarity as a method and strategy for play, survival, and integrity in artistic practice. We also consider the body as critical matter to be transposed into theatre-making.

Pat Toh

Pat Toh creates performances at the intersection of theatre, dance, and live art. Her work centres the body as site, resource, and medium, exploring sensate and visceral experiences within the entanglements of objects, technologies, and social structures. Often stripping performance of decorative elements, her works engage themes of labour, survival, and resilience. A Shell–NAC Arts Scholarship recipient, she holds a BA in Acting from NIDA (Australia) and an MA in Arts and Education from NTU–NIE (Singapore). Her works have been presented across Asia and Europe. She is an Associate Artist with Dance Nucleus (Singapore).

Rizman Putra

Rizman Putra is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance, visual art and music. Known for his inventive use of personas, his works explore intersections of theatre, movement and contemporary culture, blending thought-provoking themes with humour.

As a co-founder of the collective Kill Your Television (KYTV), Rizman received the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation Arts Award in 2005. His works have featured in the President’s Young Talents Exhibition, the inaugural Singapore Biennale and at international festivals and museums.

Beyond his visual and performance practice, Rizman is the frontman of the indie band Tiramisu and part of audiovisual duo NADA, which reinterprets cultural archives through sound and imagery. In 2023, he won the Life! Theatre Award for Best Actor for his performance in Bangsawan Gemala Malam at the Singapore International Festival of Arts.
