Descendants

Descendants is a performance project centred on reimagining Kuo Pao Kun's Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral within the context of present-day Singapore. Softening our obsession with intellect, cognition, and knowing, we seek to cast the nets of our creative, intuitive, feeling bodies into the strange and cynical sea of the play, to see what is hauled up.

Why do I feel so rootless, and yet so capable of developing my own alienness? Is there life for me beyond systems of work, money, and power?

The directorial vision takes cues from poetry rather than plot-based narratives. It is interested in patterns, repetitions, and deviations where words and images operate more as an accumulative palette of compounded meanings rather than literal and directly metaphorical connections. In that sense, this theatrical performance borrows heavily from the logic of music and the logic of dance.
